The Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is located at the foot of the Serra da Marofa mountain range, between the Côa and Águeda rivers, next to the Douro river. It was founded in 1956, by 154 members, organizing itself as a cooperative and currently has around 350 members.
The winery is part of the Beira Interior Demarcated Region, in the Castelo Rodrigo sub-region, characterized by a continental climate with Mediterranean influence and soils dominated by schist and sandstone.
This region has a long wine-making tradition, dating back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks of the Santa Maria de Aguiar Convent introduced the first viticulture knowledge to the area.
