The Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is located at the foothills of Serra da Marofa, between the Côa and Águeda river valleys, near the Douro river. It was founded in 1956 by 154 members, organizing as a cooperative, and currently has around 350 associates.

The winery is part of the Demarcated Region of Beira Interior, in the sub-region of Castelo Rodrigo, characterized by a continental climate with Mediterranean influence and soils dominated by schist and sandstone.

This region has a long winemaking tradition, dating back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks of the Santa Maria de Aguiar Convent introduced the first viticultural knowledge to the area.
